A Perfect Cup Begins with Quality
Every great cup of tea starts long before the water boils. It begins at the estate — in the soil, the leaf, and the craftsmanship behind every step. At Tsara Tea, each leaf is hand-picked on our historic organic estate in Galle, Sri Lanka.
When you brew our tea correctly, you unlock its full flavour profile: the smoothness, the purity, and the natural aroma that define true Ceylon tea.
This guide walks you through each step, helping you create the perfect cup every time.
1. Begin with Fresh, Clean Water

Fresh Water Makes a Noticeable Difference
Tea is more than flavour — it is also water.
Using stale or previously boiled water reduces oxygen, which can make the tea taste flat, dull, or metallic. Fresh, cold, filtered water helps extract the delicate flavours, aromas, and natural oils found in Tsara Tea.
A perfect brew always begins with proper water.
2. Heat the Water to the Ideal Temperature
Temperature Controls Flavour, Smoothness, and Aroma
release their flavours without becoming harsh or bitter.
- Black Tea: Needs boiling water (100°C / 212°F) to open the leaf fully and bring out bold, rich flavours.
- Green Tea: Much more delicate. Too much heat burns the leaf. Use 75–85°C (167–185°F) for a smooth, slightly sweet cup.
- Herbal Tea: Full rolling boil (100°C / 212°F) draws out the deep infusions of herbs, spices, and roots.
Controlling temperature ensures every cup tastes exactly as intended.

3. Measure the Right Amount of Tea

Proper Measuring Ensures a Balanced, Flavorful Cup
The correct ratio matters.
Use 1 teaspoon of Tsara loose leaf tea per 250ml cup.
For pyramid bags, use one bag per cup for consistent strength and flavour.
If you enjoy your tea a little stronger, simply use more leaves — never over-steep, as that can cause bitterness.
4. Steep with Precision
Steeping Time Shapes the Final Taste and Texture
Steeping is where the transformation happens.
This is the moment the leaves open, release their oils, and create the colour and aroma that define your cup.
- Black Tea: Steep 3–5 minutes (3 minutes = lighter, 5 minutes = deeper and richer)
- Green Tea: Steep 2–3 minutes for a smooth, refreshing taste
- Herbal Tea: Steep 5–7 minutes to fully extract natural herbs and spices
The right steeping time prevents bitterness and enhances natural sweetness.

5. Enjoy the Aroma First

Aroma Is Half the Experience of Tea
Before taking your first sip, pause and let the aroma rise.
Tsara Tea’s fragrance — floral, earthy, warm, or fresh depending on the blend — is created by careful organic cultivation and gentle processing.
Allowing yourself to smell the tea enhances your sensory experience and prepares your palate for a fuller taste.
